had my wake up call.

I finally got it, and really via someone else.

last week on friday, a guy I work finally had enough of the pain in his chest that he called 911. He thought he had really bad heart burn.

HE HAD A MILD HEART ATTACK.

I am not that much younger then James. He is only 52. I am at this point not only starting to walk to get my self back down to where I want to be, I am going on the heart healthy diet.

the store ads this week have boneless skinless chicken brest a dolaar a pound. Im getting a bunch, freezing in sizes I can use and I have the ground chuck in the freezer also.

salads are a pretty main staple in my house, and Im foing to strt eating more tuna and samon also. I do use real butter, because I am a fan of the taste and the way it cooks, so that will stay.

I have been drinking skim milk for years, so thts not a big thing. I also drink soy milk, it helps with my flashes, and the fact tht I just came off the pill. I have already given up coffee, and typically have sprites and stuff wiith my lunch. (tho- coke is my fav soda) I have cut my tea drinking down to very ittle. (about 1 pitcher a week, not sweetend )

Im hear by given you my thoughts on what my plan of action is. I am not going own tht way.

(he is also a smoker, and Im not. so that is one factor that Im not worried about.)

its just a wake up call I think. I dont want to have this type of thing happen to me.

BTW- he is fine now. He should be at work on monday. 1 week and 1 day later......

Take care of yourself...my brother had a heart attack last year . He is only 48. there wre many factors leading up to it...weight, stress, etc......he is taking care of himself now. On tons of meds and struggling with weight and stress, but managing.

Thats was one of the scariest events in my life. Waiting to see what was going to happen to my brother when we first found out. It was so awesome to hug him when I finally saw him smile and say he would be ok.

Sorry to hear about your friend/coworker.  At least this is a minor heart attack. Hopefully he gets the same wake call and change his diet.

There are a couple of good things that came out of this, one of them is we know texas is OLD as dirt.  LOL just kidding.

Texaschickeee, sorry to hear about your friend and I hope he gets well soon....

A heart attack can hit at any age I know smeone who had a heart attack at 21 yrs of age.  He was also in great health.  I myself have Tachycardia, which means my standing heart rate is 120 bpm standing still.. without meds.  I have had my heart rate so fast that I could not count it.  I am alot better and I believe going to the Gym and regaining my health has helped alot.  I am also trying out for the local PD... I am not sure how they look at things like this but I fill if I can do all the phyical requirement I should not have a problem.... do you have any info on this?

was asking how the Police Department looks at health issues such as this..... I should have just typed it out...sorry

I would not think they would have a problem if you could pass all the physical test...

I am sure if you told them about it and that you had it under control then it wouldnt be a big deal. I know here in TX you have to have a physical done by a dr when you start at a dept and if the dr signs of on the physical form, most departments accept this as good enough

Most departments will require an expert in the field to sign off on a major health problem (or at least they do here in Muriland). My s/o had to spend $5000 to get the daddy of all heart doctors to sign off on him (he's had a hole in his heart his whole life and has had some complications from it).

It's definately possible as long as you're capable of physically doing the job and can get someone to sign off on it. Good luck-if you want more info.....pm me.

as it goes right now my Cardio Doc. wants me off of my meds and go about my life ... he would not have a problem sighing anything he has told me to do cardio all along. I have not had any problems for over a year now and doing th GYM 3 to 4 days a week, I believe that has helped more then anything...

Have you tried that new Green tea stuff?

All I did was switch the sodas for that new Lipton Diet green tea, and I have lost approx 5lbs in the last 6 weeks.  Haven't made alot of other changes to my diet otherwise and am actually excersizing less and I still dropped a few lbs.  Might help!  Good luck!

Heart disease is scary, almost lost my Mother in law a few years ago, she had to have open heart surgery and all.  She is doing great now though, cut out salt, lessened up on the sweets, totally loves to drink Crystal Light. She just turned 80.

I will be 22 in April 3rd.  And I try to have a good head on my shoulders, thats kinda fuckin tough to do anymore. I only have a few extra pounds on me for being damn near 6'0. But overall, I try to eat healthy but that is kinda tough when your at college and on a college diet.

Glad to hear it Toby.  Its not too often that I see young adults such as yourself that have it together.  Best advice I can give is to stay away from the junk food.  Everything in moderation.  Its never too late to start eating healthy.  Whats your weight like for being almost 6'.  I'm 5'10" and 170lbs but I'm twice your age.  42 in July.  I wish I was your age but with the knoledge I have now.  Hell I might have even tried LE.  In 1997 I had testicular cancer with no reoccurences.  So one of them had to be cut out.  Had a ascended testicle at birth that had to be surgically dropped down.  Doctors at USC seem to think the cancer was related to the operation.  I try to drink lots of fruit juices and stay away from fatty foods.  Same disease that Lance Armstrong (cyclist) and Scott Hamilton (olympic ice skater) had.  But we have no kids, yet.

Sorry to hear about your friend and good to hear he is alright.

I keep in shape as much as I can and eat right. If I die, I want it to be of natural causes (like old age). I want to live as long as I possibly can.
