After 20 years of doing it, it isn't that easy to give it up. I found that I enjoyed smoking, I know people don't understand that, but I did.
I am on day 3 of the patch, and I'm not sure if it is helping me.... I can't sleep, which has happened before when I tried to quit, and I am on the edge of mass hysteria at all points in time. I'm not sure if I should ask you guys to help me out, or help out the people that have to put up with me while I go through this...

Well hell, Good luck. I have smoked for 15 years and would love to quit. Got any pointers? Just stay busy and work out and I bet you do it.
Just pick a day and do it, but that is harder than it sounds.
I tried the gum and it burned the shit out of my mouth. You are supposed to chew it for 60 seconds, find a spot in your mouth to rest it in for two minutes then chew again. Well, when you are working patrol and running your ass off, I found myself chewing, chewing, chewing and wahla! OOOOOWWWWWW!!!!!
I think the patch helps the chemical craving, but not much works well on the mental craving.

I've thought about quitting several times..but sadly, I still smoke.
In the last week, three people from work have gotten the patch/gum and are giving it a run. I've noticed that there are fewer and fewer smokers and one day, I want to stand on the other side. Good luck and I wish you success.
I helped a friend stop smoking years ago. I never knew that smoking is a true addiction until then. Sometimes smoking a cigarette is just habit, you know, after meals or gafter getting in your car. Try chewing gum or chew on those cinnamon toothpicks when ever your usual time of wanting a cigarette. Replace a habit with a habit is basicly what i'm saying.
Good luck Quopper, the patches will help but your will power is the real factor in giving up. Think of all the money you can save, although all thoughts of money can quite easily go out of your head when the craving kicks in. Hope you suceed.
Quopper - I love smoking!!!!!! I commend you on quitting though.....you're brave! I hate the fact that they cost so much, but i love to smoke, I guess I am just not ready to quit..... We're here for yah Quopper! We're tough....we can handle the flack for wanting a smoke!
The gum thing does help (not the stop smoking gum, regular gum). I chew a lot of gum and it has really helped me cut back on how much I smoke. I went from 2 packs a day down to one with the help of chewing gum????!

And your point is???? Don't have one? Well then shut up and I'll give you one!
OH MY GOD!!! After 20 years of doing it, it isn't that easy to give it up. I found that I enjoyed smoking,
Don't forget lots of water to flush out the nicotine, and vitamin C to start re-building the cells. Avoid caffeine, which exacerbates the craving. Also, doing something else with your hands helps, too, like knitting. Make a list of why you're quitting & look at it often. It isn't surprising that you would enjoy smoking; many smokers, in fact, enjoy smoking. Start telling yourself that you do not enjoy smoking, and don't put yourself in situations where smoking is possible. That may mean hanging out in malls & hospitals instead of bars, unfortunately. And if you find yourself weakening to the craving, just ask yourself, "do I want my daughter to smoke?".
Good luck; it'll be the hardest thing you've ever done in your life.
Thats just stupid posting that. She has asked for help and you go and post something like that. That image just might trigger a craving for a cigarette..way to go!

Oh bite me. That should meker her feel better by knowing what she is preventing.
I'm almost certain she knows what she is preventing by quiting smoking since there are warnings labels on every pack on every pack of cigarettes warning of the risk for cancer.
Asshole - thanks, my honey has no idea why it is so hard to give this up, or why people have addicitions in the first place. What confuses me, is that I am also addicted to him, and addicted to sex, but ESPECIALLY addicted to sex with him, and he has no problems with those! (You know I love you baby!) HOWEVER, he is very supportive in his own creative, comical way.... Though he was close to death this morning!
Foxfyre - thanks! However, I simply can't believe you suggested that I knit! That is fucking hysterical! The laugh helped!!
SwatCop - I know, I know..... But sometimes you just gotta quit some things!
BBB - who the hell needs a room?? Rooms are boring, we enjoy doing it everywhere else!

Baseball Babe wrote: Good Luck....Quooper! Stay focused. I tried smoking but it tasted so nasty so I quickly gave it up. I've seen your pictures, BBB... You don't even look the type to smoke. Too "innocent," I suppose.
I tried it in High School. I think I did it just to look cool. But I didn't like the taste do I gave it up really quickly (the next day)
Not telling if I am innocent or not...

Glad to have helped. I was going to suggest that you play w/ yourself or pacman, but I figured you'd be doing that anyway, and then you'd just want a cigarette. It's a vicious circle...
You know, I quit once. You know what I learned? I like smoking!! After the first week I realized that the whole earth stinks!!! Everything fucking stinks! Though, food did taste better, if you could get over the smell of whoever was next to you. LOL. So, after a while I come to the conclusion, “OK, the price to live longer is to be more miserable”. That just didn’t add up and I started smoking again, which wasn’t hard since EVERYONE around me was buying me cig’s hand over foot to start again so I wasn’t such an asshole! J

If I played with myself anymore than I already do, I'd have to buy myself a wedding band!
As far as playing with Pacman, FRIDAY I will be!!!!! And amazingly enough, I don't crave a cigarette when we are done, I crave more of HIM!

Good luck Quopper. I am happy you quitting.....need to have good people like you around a lot more, so take care of yourself!
I smoked a bit in college......started out as a looking cool thing, but turned into something I thought i liked, so I did it a lot more than every now and then.. I didnt like the way it made me feel.....out of control ..and I smelled like an ash tray. So I just did it when I was out drinking with my buddies. Then I met hubby and on our 4th date or so, he saw me smoke and told me, "Thats pretty gross; please dont do that." I really thought he was cute and wanted to keep dating him so I stopped......no problem, so it was not a true addiction, just as accessory for me, I guess. His mom died of lung cancer 3 years later, so Im glad I did not develop that habit. He has told me stories about how he used to find her cigarettes (when he was a little boy) and hide them or throw them away because he was so scared of what they could do to her.
Sorry.....not a good subject for me, I guess.
Good luck......if you arent going to knit, bite your nails, pick your nose, get some worry beads to keep in your pocket...........play the drums...something other than smoking.
