I tried to download I.E. 7 and thought it did. At the end it said you must re-start to make it run so I clicked on CLOSE window and a box came up saying Download error. I re-started my POS computer and its not I.E. 7.
Can someone help me with this???

1. What OS are you running? 2. What security programs do you use? Norton, mcafee, windows defender, etc.... 3. What error messege does event viewer give?
Sorry for the brevity, typing on phone.

Whoinhell wants I.E.7??? I understand that not every site out there supports Mozilla, but I'd rather use it as it allows you more privacy and stops so many pop-ups it's not even funny. What makes I.E.7 so much better than I.E.6 or prior? Have they plugged any of the hundreds of security holes? Have they fixed any of the hundreds of bugs?

Been running firefox for the better part of 2 years. Never a complaint or an issue. I have my privacy settings maxed out and it keeps NO history. I also have my homepage set to Blank...

Paranoid is not the proper word. Cautious... Mistrustful... Private...
I see NO reason to use a program that reports on me to the originating company. I avoid Microsoft when possible as well as A.O.HELL. Any program that rewrites my registry so as to make it essential to the proper function of my system will be avoided assidiously.
It's called being an intelligent and informed user. I consider myself to be one step down from a hacker. I talk to my geek and hacker friends and incorporate their knowledge into my use. I would love to learn enough to be considered a hacker... (BTW, there's a difference between a hacker and a malicious hacker or Cracker or script kiddie...)

Well, being in the field, I can't argue with that. It should be noted, by the way, that the only serious hole that has been plugged in IE7 is yet another windows validation script!!!!! So if you have a crack version of XP, be careful. It doesn't "currently" disable anything, but neither did sp2 when it first came out. :)
Ok, not to hijack, as this is sort of on topic... I have XPsp2... Rergistered, sort of... Is it safe for me to get the updates? My validation codes are authentic (not generated, but gotten through official channels)
I know that it may seem like a silly question, but I don't want The Billy Boy's Company fragging my system.

My code is the same way I get all the updates and never have a problem.

Also, on a side note, has anyone downloaded FireFox 2.0? I keep reading about all these problems it is supposed to have. I downloaded it and it works fine for me. The only problem I had was one of my themes didnt work.

I just installed firefox 2.0 2 days ago. The old version kept crashing on me, and now it has not failed me once. I did lose my theme and some of my add ons, but they will update them for 2.0 soon, I am sure.

It's hard to answer that without knowing exactly what the , "its real, but not", situation. I can tell you this. Since all current versions of XP suck, in my opinion, I have found an older version of XP pro corp to be the best. Problem is, it doesn't pass any valid ID checks at all without totally rewriting some dll's. After doing that it has done all updates without a problem. HOWEVER, the new IE7 has something new in it and says my version isn't valid. I have yet to tear into it to see what the hell they are doing now, or what is going to need done to get around it, but, because it is a new thing, it might get weird if your "its real, but not", if off in any way. :)
Well, I used a valid disk, a valid keycode and a valid online registration, the issue is that there is aanother system out there that used the same cd and key code. I don't know if they actually track that or not. Of course as far as they know it's just another comp used by the same user in a different location. I don't see paying $600 for XPsp2 at the store. It's fucking extortion...
When/if I learn to code on Linux I'm wiping my system and reloading using Linux and a Windows emulator. Lemmesee... Stable, efficient and free... vs. Expensive, unstable and inefficient... I just need to learn to code in it.

Yes, they "track" that. And yes, that can cause some problems. As for the linux thing, well, that isn't as easy as SOME would have you believe. Ubuntu has it down to where just about anybody can install and do the normal things like browse the net, but, any farther then that and you better get use to the terms R&D. Now "win4lin" or other ports like it do work, (windows emulation for linux/unix), BUT at a cost. Resources mostly, and,,,,,,,,,, compatibility. If you are serious about it I would recommend going the other way first. Emulate linux to get a feel for it on your windows machine. Then, after sometime you will either learn it and switch, or you will say, "FUCK THIS!". :)
