24 HR Fitness

They are pissing me off! I've tried to cancel my account twice (once last month) and again this time. I have to cancel it by using the phone number they've provided me.

So I go to cancel it the first time but they tell me that I will still get charged for my next billing statement. So I decide to wait until 10 days before my next one (which is on Jan. 10th).

Again, I try and cancel it using the phone number I was given. And now the lady says that I will still be charged on Jan. 10th. I told her that I tried calling before and the person told me I had to cancel 10 days before my next billing statement was due. But she said it was 30 days!

Needless to say, I hung up on her and drove over to the 24 HR Fitness to complain. Which I did and told the guy (manager or asst. manager) what just happened and why I needed to cancel it.I told him that someone that I call 10 days before my next statement is due and I can cancel it without getting charged. So the guy asked me who told me this like I am suppose to remember the persons name whom told me.

I told him that there wouldn't be any money in there for them to charge me. I am highly pissed off about this! Telling me two different fucking times (10 days before or 30 days before) when my account has to be cancelled for me not to get charged.

So I just cancelled my account now. Both times on the phone they try to lower your fees to keep you on. I hate that so much!! It drives me up the wall. I was getting pissed off even more.

I can totally comprehend what you are saying ... some of the people you talk to on the phone ... make me want to pull my hair out ... to say it nicely ... You can ask SU ...

I tend to get violent at some of the stupid phone operators when you tell them one thing and they repeat something totally different from what was said ...  I have even been know to break a phone or two because of them ...

I feel for you and your dilemma ... put in a dispute with the card that you put it on ... most of the ones that I have done this with have helped me out and refunded my money back immediately.

Good Lock Lady !!!!!!!!!!!!

BBB,

I have heard so much negative stuff with 24 hour fitness I would never go there.

If they wont shut your accounbt down, remove the right to get into the accout to pay them, I bet they do something then.

take names next time to shock the person you talk to in person and then theres something you can do.

but I can totally relate. they suck./

See I am not sure what to do.

I was going to take out all my money from my account before Jan. 10th came around. But would that mean that if they tried to take it out and there wasn't anything there. Would that be considered as "bad" credit for me in the near future. I can't decide what to do.

I hung up the phone twice when I was talking to them. I told them that I was really annoyed with them.

First what is 24 Hr fitness?

Did you have a contract?  If so look at it.  You may find the answer there.  I never let anyone do the automatic account deduction thing, now I know why.

Better Business Bureau?  They can help sometimes also.

Request to speak to the head person, manager or whatever.

Good luck to you.

24 HR Fitness is a gym ( they have them all of the US). I already cancelled my account. But the lady I spoke with told me I would get charged on Jan.10th.

I was told two different things. The first time I was told that I could cancel my account 10 days before my next billing statement. And then today when I tried to cancel it.I was told it was 30 days. So I was mad.

Anyways, they cancelled my account I have until March 2007 to work out at the gym (I think) but my last statement is due on Jan 10th. Which I am not wanting to pay. I was told when I signed up for this offer that month to month was the way to go for me. Never again.

I will have to check on BBB tomorrow. I am tired from working out and all my energy put into complaining about my account.

Thanks

I don't think that we have 24 hr fitness around here, figured it was a gym.  Please do make a complaint with the BBB, might help someone else.

I don't know about your bank but mine would pay it and then charge me a $22 service fee.

24 hour fitness would not cancel my account after I had my accident......even after my doctorr sent them a letter informing them I could not walk or talk , much less benfit from any fitness progam they had to offer. They attempted to get money from an account that was closed even after they were told that an automatic withdrawal would result in such a thing. My good friend, the attorney finally wrote a letter to the main office, threatening as much as she could with all the proof that I no longer neede a lifetime membership to 24 hour anything. She went to the local 24 hour fitness  and talked to the manager who had the nerve to suggest I keep my membership to help with my therapy. My friend was pissed, needless to say. At the time in my recovery, they werent even sure if I would wake up the next day much less work-out. She made a few comments indictaing that I would own 24 hour fitness if they continued charge my closed checking account for a membership I could propbably never use. He suggested a transfer of membership; my friend suggested he contact an attorney and to expect his name on the lawsuit. My account was closed within the day.

Money hungry bastards is all they are. My mom paid so much money in NSF fees because they kept trying to get money from me ..even after we gave them the proof they needed. I was in a freaking coma and they were taking money from me and asking my poor mom to keep my account open so I could use it when I was able....aAAAAAAGGGGHHHH..BAD memories..........we should all boycott the money hungry pigs........I have.
