Valentine's Day is coming up ... and I have heard all kinds of different Traditions over the years.
First ... What is your Tradition(s) ...
Second ... I found this one .... what do you think of it? and/or is it true?
In Scotland Valentine’s Day is celebrated by having a festival. At the festival there is an equal amount of young unmarried (single) men and young unmarried (single) ladies who get together, each of them writes on a piece of paper their name or a made up name, this is then rolled up. The names are placed in two hats one for the men one for the ladies they then have to draw a piece of paper out of the hat. Both may end up with two valentines but the young man is suppose to stick with the valentine who has chosen him.
This having been done the company has been split up into so many couples, gifts are given to the young ladies and the young ladies would wear the name of their valentine over their heart or on their sleeve. There might also be a dance and at the end of the festival there might even be a lot of marriages or romances.
There is another valentine were the first young man or woman that by chance walks by you in the street, or elsewhere will be your valentine.
In Scotland valentines gifts were given by both parties in the form of a love-token or a true-love-knot.

I was always led to believe that the first single person of the opposite sex that you see on valentines day is the person who will be your true valentine, and the love of your life.
But as with everything, there will always be varying stories.
I really use to like Valentine's Day. Especially when I got to help out in the florist. I liked working with the flowers and making arrangements.
We were so busy that day that they had extra help just for that day ... and I got to be in that department for a whole week ... we would make as many arrangements ahead as we could ... and as many call in orders ahead ...
I remember making up to 50 bud vases ahead of time and still having to make more on Valentines day as we would run out ... along with the walk-in orders. As for 1/2 doz and Doz's .... they took longer and we made at least 100 of each... but then we made a lot of just bunches wrapped in pretty paper and sold with out a vase ...
The ribbons were the things that I hated the most ... I must have cut my fingers so many times that I could not feel the tips ...
And lets not forget the balloons ... we had all kinds of crazy ones as well as the hearts that said "I Love You".
Well that was my tradition for several years ... working on Valentines day until late and then crashing because I was so tired by the end of the day ....
But I got to make a lot of people smile ... and that made me feel good ...

No special traditions over here.....cards and a gift....dinner out or home-made, depending on the mood.
While many special days are commercialized and made -up by card companies for marketing purposes..why not make your own card in protest and simply just enjoy a pleasant moment with a loved one or use it as an excuse to open a door leading to a friendship or romance.
There are too many bitter moments in life;so what if Hallmark wants to make money on a holiday they create. Use it to your advantage to have a bettr attitude about things for just one day.

Now that is the best ass kissing I have seen in awhile. Of course it may take more than that to make up for it but I think your going in the right direction.

Yep ..... you would be surprised how many miles I've logged backing up all the way to the house .....
In Britain can be found so many verses of love and affairs of the heart that have been so beautifully penned in honor of St Valentine.
In Britain various parts of the kingdom celebrate their own customs and as the day approached all magazines were readying for the day that they published sonnets and verses to commemorate St Valentine's Day.

I would have to say that most Holidays have been exploited by blatant commercialism. But of all the holidays we have, Christmas, Easter and Valentines are by far some of the oldest traditions we have (not counting the Jewish or Muslim holiday/religious traditions). The one I don't do is sweetest day. TOTALLY made up so that Hallmark has a card giving holiday for every month of the year. Kinda thinking the same for qwanza too but seeing as I am not of African descent I can't really comment on something I know nothing about.
Anyways.... I got diamonds for the wife for Christmas and just got her an MP3 player that is a total hit.... Am I still obligated to get a gift for Valentines? I 'll get her a card for sure. I get my daughter flowers and my son balloons or a toy (he's 8). The dogs are on their own though.

Get her a greeting card and some I-tunes to use on her MP-s player......hubby gave me a big Christmas gift and surprised me with a Zune card that I am having fun with....so to speak. Stick the card on a rose or something......kisses and hugs and whatever else you fancy and she is game to.

I got her a Sansa by Sandisk 6GB with hundreds of Rhapsody songs PRELOADED on it with 2mo trial of Rhapsody and I extened it to unlimited access for 10$ a mo. I orig got her a pink 4GBiPod nano but took it back when i found out all I could use was iTunes and had to pay .99 a song. Sorry I hate it when a product is forced on me. Apple has a good product and it is taking the world by storm but I got a better product with more memory with music already on it that I can use other sites besides Rhapsody if i choose to anf for 20$ less. Does anybody remember what happened in the 80's when Apple had PC's that would run ONLY their own software? Nope? That's because IBM allowed others to build copies of their PCs and to make software to run them. Hence Microsoft and Windows were born and almost wiped Apple off the face of the earth.

I like my Zune so far.....my daughter does too since I put some of her kids stuff on it and I can put it on the dock thingie on the tv and let her hear some of her favorite tunes. She thinks that is pretty neat.
What will they do next? I remember when I thought C.D's were so cool.
