No lamb or veal for me......just not my cup of tea.

Today is Fat Tuesday and I am making red beans and rice. .....the guy at the bakery ran out of King cakes, but made one for me while I shopped...I bought some Turbo Dog beer and we are ready.
My husband is pretty grumpy about the hard wood floors he is installing in his office (not turning out as expected) so I am not sure if "showing him  something Mista" will get me anything, but a "not tonight dear...."

Bread, I'm so glad you reminded me!!  I almost forgot that I have to pick up my dinner today from this little gourmet place here.....they do a special Mardi Gras menu every year.  I'm having crawfish etouffee, red beans & rice, and maque choux.  I'm thinking about getting a muffeletta as well for my dinner tomorrow.

And I meant to order a king cake. Time just got away from me. Oh well, next year.

Had I thought about it, I would have ordered a roast beef po-boy from Bear's for my husband. His father sent him one in Idaho for his birthday one year. It cost him 50 bucks to get it sent same day delivery..... he packed it in dry ice, I think. I had to put it in the oven because it was a little soggy. My husband did not care because it was from Bears......he still says it was the best birthday present he ever got.

MMMMMM...crawfish etoufee. I hope we go back to LA for Jazzfest...I am working on it.

I think I'm going to do pizza too.  Still unpacking and such from moving this weekend, and I have so much more to do.

I'll see if I can get there.  I won't have a car, but hopefully cabfare won't be too expensive.

last night I had popeyes.
Fresh from the fryer, the wing combo.
fresh, spicy wings (3) and the side of rice, and a couple jalapino peppers...plus their biscuits are the best.

and I had a Dr.Pepper to wash it down with.

If someone likes to cook ... then they usually are good at it ... Lasagna sounds good about now ... but it is hard to cook nice home dishes in a big truck traveling all over America ... but I like to cook ... I guess I got that from my dad though ... he was always creating new and unusual dishes from all over ...  including other countries ... I never knew what to expect for dinner when he was alive ...

It was lasagna....home -made noodles, bread, sauce...the works. My mother is incredible. I like to cook, as well, but I cant cook like her and probably never will. She says its just a sprinkle of love that  makes it good; what an angel.  My dad liked to cook, as well. Mom was always scooting him out of the kitchen.  She  had a  maid/cook her whole childhood ..college etc. She says she is making up for lost time. She wont let anybody in the kitchen to help her when she is cooking.....says it messes up her cooking groove. She is a trip.

I am sorry about your loss, IO

Thanks JJoe ... I still miss him so much ... he just passed last July ... I did get to be in the room with him until the end though ... I had played him "Our song"....

It was the one that he taught me about ("The Father") Jesus with ... It is called "What's a Daddy" ... sung by Jack Burns ... I have been searching for a copy of it forever it seems and a radio trucker talk show found it for me and even though he could not sell me a copy he did play it so I could dedicate it to my Dad before he died ...

It is kind of a sad sappy song .. but it was "Our Song" ...

Anyway ... He was the one in the kitchen most of he time ... I still remember some of the strange "Medieval" receipts that he researched and put together ...

The "Rabbit Pie" wasn't so bad ... but my favorite was his "Mandarin Orange Cream Cheese Pie" he made it every Thanksgiving ...
