RE: What book(s) are you reading now?

I am reading Map of Bones by James Rollins (think that is his name).

It is Raiders of the Lost Ark meets Da Vinci code kind of thing. It is  basically about the theft of the bones of the Magi (yes, the Wise men who visited Jesus) and the investigation .  So far so good....lots of historical references need to be looked up when I am done since I am so nerdy and curious. It is taking me along time to read since it is so detailed and I dont want to miss anything.........not a book to read quickly.

Styx, are you going to go see Hannibal Rising the movie?  I'm not sure if I will, or wait for the DVD, lol.

I want to see it, but will wait to hear what people I know have seen and said about it. I was not too thrilled about Hannibal, but then the book was not that great either. I just dont know how the movie will portray little Hannibal's feelings and what set him off after  the trauma he experienced during the war.

It will be awhile before I can tell you if Map of Bones is worth reading, but so far it is.  It even has a bit of  a James Bond  thing going on with the agents that are part of the group investigating the theft of the bones. James Bond as in techno gadgets that seems really awesome.

Yes, I am a nerd......so what!

I'm afraid they will ruin the Lady Murasaki scenes...  But movies rarely do justice to the books...

YOU?  A nerd?  No way, Styx!  Lol...  I do love techno gadgets.  If you like that sort of thing, have you read Douglas Preston's Riptide?  It's based on the Oak Island Treasure legend.

I just recently dicovered I like that sort of thing...so , no, I have not read that book. I will have to look into Riptide.

I like historical fiction; just dicovered that I did.....only problem is that I look up any references authors make to historical events to check on dates, etc. Yeah......I am a nerd. Naturally, all the authors write an apology to any mistakes they have made and stress that the story is based on an actual event in history, but has been played with a bit to add mystery and suspense. If you think about it, history is all one major suspense novel with twists and turns and who dunnit, etc When I read Faye Kellermans Straight into Darkness, I read a bit more about Adolf Hitler than I wanted to ....only because the events in the book were based on his screwed up life as a so called leader. It was a tough book to read, but I finished it even though I had doubts I wanted to after reading so many horrible things history books just dont tell you.

Thanks for the Riptide reference.....off to the bookstore I go....maybe the library.

I would try the library, Styx, and try anything by Douglas Preston or Lincoln Child, or the series they work on together, starting with Relic (which is by far NOT the best book).

Also, Steve Alten's Meg is pretty good.

I'm reading a diet book, "Enter the Zone", as well as "Recovery: How to Survive Sexual Assault" (for the hotline) and my horrible Nokia User Guide.

I'm reading "The Bedroom Secrets of the Master Chefs," by Irvine Welsh.  And no, it's not what you think. rofl.gif

It's basically about a man trying to find his father.  I started reading it a while ago, put it down, and picked it up again.

Another Zone book. I can't decide if I want to try it or not. It's pretty complicated.

Probably not as complicated as Woody's book though.

I didn't even know there was more than one. I only remember reading the original from 1831.  Duh.

Dean Koontz has a two book "Frankenstein" series.  The third and final volume has been delayed for a very long time.

Ohhh. I haven't read Koontz in ages, and I miss him.

What was the one about the woman who hid in the camper or trailer of some lunatic in order to get to his home to rescue a girl he was holding captive?  Geez, that has to be one of the most suspenseful books I've ever read.
