From the Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge Mass. The custard was smooth & lightly espresso flavored, the sugar crisp had a faint espresso taste, w/ espresso whipped cream & chocolate covered espresso beans. Can't find the recipe anywhere, and the chef wouldn't spill the (espresso) beans. I've tried to re-create it, but can't get the crisp & cream just right.
Okay, I found one. You'll have to let me know if it's close to what you had. For the espresso whipped cream, I would just add a small amount of strong espresso to heavy whpping cream and sugar to your taste.
INGREDIENTS:
* 2 cups milk * 1 cup whole espresso coffee beans * 1/4 cup nonfat dry milk * 3 Tablespoons sugar, divided * 1 teaspoon vanilla extract * pinch of salt * 4 large egg yolks * 1/4 cup sugar, divided
PREPARATION:
1. In a large saucepan, stir together the milk, coffee beans, nonfat dry milk and 2 tablespoons of sugar.
2. Place the pan over medium heat and cook, stirring occasionally, until tiny bubbles begin to form around the edge. Do not allow to boil.
3. Remove mixture from heat, cover and allow to steep 30 minutes.
4. Preheat oven to 300°F.
5. Strain the milk mixture through a fine-mesh sieve and stir in the vanilla.
6. Whisk the egg yolks together with 1 tablespoon of sugar and a pinch of salt.
7. Gradually add milk mixture to the egg mixture, stirring constantly with a whisk.
8. Divide the mixture evenly among 4 (4-oz.) ramekins or custard cups. Place them in a 13x9-inch baking pan and add hot water to a depth of 1-inch.
9. Bake for 25 minutes or until the center barely moves when ramekins is touched. Remove ramekins from pan and cool completely on a wire rack. Cover and chill at least 4 hours or overnight.
10. Sift 1 tablespoon of sugar evenly over each custard and using a kitchen blowtorch, move it back and forth until the sugar is completely melted and carmelized.
To serve:
Serve immediately or within 1 hour.

I've never ordered anything online from this place, but I go there a few times a month to buy coffee and espresso beans, the quality is always good and I take my coffee very seriously. I know I'll probably hear a lot of jokes about this, but the Grumpy Monkey coffee beans are excellent.

In gratitude for your excellent recommendation, I won't... Okay, I'll try not to... snicker, snort, the grumpy monkey???? What on earth have you done to the monkey now????
Hahahaha, anything I'd do to the monkey would certainly not cause grumpiness.
I have to say, when I first saw the Grumpy Monkey beans several months ago I laughed. It really is very good, though, I have it a few times a week. In fact, I'm going to Princeton on Saturday and will be replenishing my supply.

The name is worth a laugh; I really liked their site, and the prices are reasonable. You can order whole bean or you can order espresso, but it doesn't say if the espresso is whole bean. I'll call them tomorrow. Unfortunately, a run up to Princeton is not on the schedule anytime soon.
I did find espresso beans at Delicious Orchard in Colts Neck today; the coffee they sell is quite good, so it should be good. Perhaps not quite as good as the grumpy monkey, however, which offers 6 kinds of espresso but I'll let you know how it works out.
Oh yum! Did someone mention Creme Brulee. Everytime my sweetie and I go out we always end up getting creme brulee. It is like an aphrodiac (sp?) for us. Gets me all warm and tingly just thinking about it.
