A woman who was working for a Canton bank was bound, robbed and stuffed inside an ATM Thursday morning.
The woman, an employee of ATM Management Company Wilson Group, was doing some work on the automatic teller machine at a LaSalle Bank. Around 7 a.m., she opened the ATM and a man appeared with a gun in his belt and demanded she give him all of the money, Local 4 reported.
The suspect then duct-taped the woman's arms, hands and mouth and then shoved her inside the ATM, which is a little bigger than she is. He then stole her purse, wallet, keys and car, according to Canton police.
"It was extremely traumatic," said Sgt. Rick Pomorski of the Canton Police Department. The woman spent over an hour inside the ATM, as people would come up and withdraw money. No one heard the woman until one man arrived.
"Suddenly someone went to the machine to make a withdraw and thought they heard some muffled sounds inside the ATM," said Pomorski. "They called police and we sent police and fire crews out and found the woman inside."
Police are offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible, according to a Canton Police Department news release.
The woman's stolen vehicle, a 2001 black Escort, was recovered Thursday afternoon near Sheldon and Van Born roads.
The case remains under investigation and the search continues for the suspect (s). If you have any information, call Canton police at (734) 394-5400. Reward information can be obtained by calling (800) 422-6835.
Where was her security? I thought they normally sent armed guards with the peeps who work on the atms? (at least I know there is a local company who provides guards for that )

But if she had a guard she would have been killed. They would have shot them with guns because the guards had guns. Guns are not a good thing. She is lucky.

Oh my....lets not go there. (that is just wrong on so many levels we'll just agree to disagree on that one)

Guns are not at fault, it's the people who weild them.
How can you say that? A guard with a gun would have just escalated the whole thing. The robber would have shot first. Guns kill people and are so dangerous. I don't like them.

I think this could have been avoided with a guard. Hence the word "guard". He would have been looking out for her. And more than likely would not have made a move if she had been guarded.

You are wrong. Guns have never killed anyone. Just like cars have never killed anyone. Drivers do. People who USE guns to shoot people kill people. A gun is just a tool. It can be used positively and negatively. The difference is the USER.
Least we forget....the guy did not have to commit the armed robbery in the first place did he?

We as a country are all to quick to resort to guns. The UK does just fine without them, their police don't have guns. How come Canada doesn't have all the gun violence that we have. If there were fewer or no guns it wouldn't matter if it was the person or not.

Actually, both the UK and Canada's crime rates went UP. Ours goes down with civilians are permitted to carry concealed guns.
I'll post a link or two with some info for you when I get it put together.

I'm with Plush and Zap. Guns dont kill, people use them to kill.
and this peep didnt have to commit the crime He choose to.
and the gaurd could have been a male OR female. just becasue the people choose to commit crime, it doesnt matter if the gaurd was there or not. some peeps are just bent on commiting it anyway.
case in points...
Joseph Edward Duncan III, who killed the family to get Shasta to molest and rape.
Bank robbers that rob banks even with a cop there inside.
Ted Bundy, worked as a crisis counselor for a minute, and was dismissed becasue of his educational level. He still got himself convicted and put to death.
TJAW - criminals will manage to buy guns. I would prefer the ability to defend myself against them. The UK & Canadians are dealing with more & more violent criminals breaking into peoples homes - while the people are HOME. They cannot defend themselves. In those US states that have shall/will carry laws, crime has gone DOWN. Criminals do not know who MIGHT be carrying.
There are a lot of reasons that the constitution calls for an armed citizenry. Not least of all, to keep the government honest.
This happened in the town next to mine and at my bank. Unbelievable and scary. There was another ATM problem with another bank last year and they changed their security and sub contract procedures so that these folks are always in pairs but not all are armed guards at this point.

EXCELLENT point Foxy... As I have said before...civilians with concealed guns are the equivilant of Russian roulette for the bad guys. ....they never know when they will get a live one
so KANSAS....you are saying that they normally don't sent guards with the ATM people?

No they don't zap. There are two different groups. The ATM maintenance folks like this woman and then the bank folks that load/unload money. They are not the same. Most the atm folks are sub contractors hired by the banks to maintain the machines, they are generally not bank employees nor handle any cash/deposits etc. The bank folks are normally escorted by bank guards when loading/unloading cash/deposits. AT least that is my understanding up around my parts.
I know, and only because the guy that heard her got out of his car to use the atm. She could have been there longer as with a car running it would be hard to hear I imagine.
