I grew up on JCM. I was little though. But i do remember I had a babysitter named Diane and her husbands name was Jack.
By far if your into rock music than the 70's is the golden era. (80's music was overall pretty terrible)
In the 70's you had
Zeppelin AC/DC Springsteen Aerosmith Rolling Stones The Who Queen The Doors Black Sabbath Pink Floyd And Many more(want me to list more ask but I could go on for days)
What was in the 60's besides Dylan and the Beatles?(dont get me wrong I love them both.) But as a decade over all the 70's are supreme.
The music of the 80's overall was overproduced, fake, and lacked feeling. Their was the random highlight(U2, Guns N Roses, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Metallica, ect.) and the 90's gave way to a few great bands(Allice in Chains, Janes Addiction, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Sondgarden, and a few others)
I will always take Dylan's highway 61 revisited and the Stones' Exile on Mainstreet over anything released in the last 20-25 years. There is a reason why these people are still around and in the spotlight(nothing better has come along)
Lets face it rock music is dying and it dosent look like its going to get any better. I just hope the legends can keep going for a little longer untill something real and great comes along.

What did the 60's have besided Dylan & the Beatles???? For one thing the Doors released their 1st album in '67. The Who got together in '64. Lez Zeppelin formed in '68, splintering off the Yardbirds. In '63 the Rolling Stones signed w/ Decca Records. Pink Floyd released their first album in '67. So most of your 70's music started in the 60's. From Hootenanies to Woodstock, the 60's was filled w/ ground breaking music, that led to the "supreme 70's".
I love the 70's and 80's. The 80's may have had a lot of "one hit wonders", but they also spawned a great deal of dam good music! Those were my concert years and they are the best of memories I have as far as concerts go. Now concerts are too policed and full of idiots making trouble. The 80's had great shows and good times!

And your point is???? Don't have one? Well then shut up and I'll give you one!
Your right but just those bands forming is not what defined the decade. Most of these bands most significant albums came out in either the tail end of the 60's or 70's.
For instance
Rolling Stones- Beggers Banquet (1968) Let it Bleed (1969) Exile on Main Street(1972)
Pink Floyd- Dark Side of the Moon(1973) The Wall(1979)
Led Zeppelin- Physical Graphiti(1975) VI(1971)
Just some quick examples
My point is that while yes these bands did come about in the 60's they exploaded in the 70's and defined that decade as a whole. I'm not denying the 60's but overall its no competition.

You didn't mention that those bands existed in the 60's at all. You implied that music in the 70's sprang full-blown out of some sort of vacuum.
You dismiss out-of-hand some of these bands best work, and they did far more than just "form". For instance, The Rolling Stones Satisfaction (65), Paint It Black (65), Under My Thumb (66), etc. Led Zeppelin's 1st & 2nd albums (69 & 69) include some of their best known songs! You may not LIKE the early Floyd (Piper at the Gates (67) & Saucerful of Secrets(68), but it DID lead to those albums you believe are so amazing.
It would be more accurate if you claimed that you PREFER the music of the 70's. Because there IS music from the 60's that rivals the 70's, as there was music produced in the 80's+ to rival that of the 70's.
No music exists in a vacuum; it builds upon the work of artists that came before &, hopefully, pushes the boundaries to create something new & exciting.
I just know that all the bands you guys mention, influence many of the bands I cherish today. I remember songs playing on the stereo as a child. I do not know who alot of them were but they have stuck with me through the years. They remind me of my mom.
OOOHHH I think I'm going to like this place. There are people just as stubborn as me here.
Ok here we go...

Thats not what this topic was... It was what you think is the best decade for music right? Well I said the 70's. Oh, and please tell me some music thats from after 1980 that rivals the music of the 70's and 60's. I want something that is just as rich lyrically and musically. Please let me know, because I havent found anything in the last 10 years.

I didnt say that it did... I said that the 70's was the time when most of the bands mentioned in this thread hit their peak and released their best albums. I mean you could always say that one thing progresses from another. This applys to most things in life but is what comes next always better? I don't think so.

Very true that the Stones were around in the middle to late 60's. They released some of the greatest tracks of all time during this period(sympathy for the devil, satisfaction, ect) But I could also say that the stones were the band that transitioned the music scene of the 60's to the real gritty rock music that came in the next decade. In a sense you cant really pin the stones to the music scene of the decade sense they are the inventors.Same thing goes with Zeppelin, but I can say that they became more fine crafted allowing them to do songs like Stairway to Heaven, When the Levee Breaks, Kashmir, ect. Led Zeppelin was a band that got better as they experimented more. The thing is that each and every one of their albums is a masterpiece but if I had to choose between early or later Zeppelin I would choose latter.
Can you really say that the music on the radio today is as good as the before mentioned bands?
I dont like the quote system on this forum. It makes it hard to tell what text is quoted. Where are my boxes????????

You will learn it took me a while and I still fuck it up alot.

Actually you did not limit yourself to saying the 70's. You SAID What was in the 60's besides Dylan and the Beatles?
And please show me where you said this: I said that the 70's was the time when most of the bands mentioned in this thread hit their peak and released their best albums. I can't seem to find it.

You didn't make that claim until AFTER I pointed out that most of the bands you listed got their start in the 60's.

Ok to the debate section it goes. By the way peeps. Very nice subject.
Any Creedence Clearwater Revival fans here + John Cougar M. Little bit of 60, 70,80 Rock & Roll. Blues & Country & Western. What´s your favourite ?
I like a little of it all...'cept the "newer" country
I like Sonia Dada...Bare naked ladies...Harry Connick...Beatles..stones....Maroon...most all jazz and for sure the blues...Five for Fighting...Dion... Mozart...there is some great music from all eras..'cept maybe the 80's...
I grew up on CCR and BTO and Lynyrd Skynyrd... It took me years to enjoy Zeppelin, and I can only deal with it in moderate amounts.
I enjoyed some of the '70s except disco.... and much of the '80s. Punk and New Wave were nice. Metal was good as well.
I even enjoyed much of the '90s. All except Nirvana. Can't stand to listen to Kurt Cobain whining... Not a lot worth listening to anymore. Rammstein and NIN and such are about all I can deal with in the newer genres. Pop makes me wanna vomit. R&B ain't R&B anymore. Don't even get me started on Gangsta Rap...

My parents listened to Swing. I listened to 50's, 60's and early 70's, before Nam stole my teen years. I still listen to 50 and 60--constantly. CCR is a good thing! America, CSNY, Buddy Holley, just to name a few.
I can still remember bits and pieces of Woodstock. I can see Jimmy Hendricks staggering on stage as everybody passed "hog-legs" around.
I understand what you mean to a point. My father spent 3 years in green hell. He still won't talk about much of it. I have Hendrix Star Spangled Banner on my comp. I wish I'd been able to see that. He was a god on guitar and most do not realize that he served his country and left the military on a medical. Broke his ankles in a bad PLF.
I really enjoy listening to Hendrix, the Doors and a few other artists from that time period.

Being a musician, of sorts, I enjoy all types of music. I learned to play guitar from my father, who entertained with old folk/country songs. Being Irish, he taught me a few Irish folk songs, and being a Navy man, he taught me a few naughty Navy songs...like Barnicle Bill the Sailor, and..."Oh, it's roll and toss and pound and pitch and creak and groan you son-of-a-bitch...Oh what a hell of a life....on a destroyer....
I learned the OLD cowboy songs, and songs from the 20's-50's from him, and I grew up with music from the 60's-70's-80's. Not much in the 90's I'm fond of, but I do enjoy country. I like everything from classical to blues...just depends on my mood. My car radio is tuned into a classic rock station...and I drove home from work the other night, at 10:30, groving to Bad to the Bone--totally awesome song!
If I had to pick a decade...it would be a toss up between the 60's and 70's.
