Speeding let off.

I had luck on my side this morning, I was taking my daughter to her Irish dancing class, had plenty of time as well, but as usual, I was driving like there was no tomorrow, pulled on to a motorway type road, however the road only has a speed limit of 50 not 70 like a motorway, undertook a couple of cars that were going too slow for me, shot over to the fast lane and went.

Anyway, as I was coming up to a speed camera, I hit the brakes to get back down to 50 (ish), looked in the mirror and had a cop car behind me, his lights went on at that point so i pulled over, they pulled over behind me, so i got out and walked back to them, they showed me on the thing in their car that I had been doing 71mph, and by rights they should book me, which would have meant 3 points on my licence and a £60 fine.

Somehow I managed to get let off, must of been the fact that I was polite and helpful, as I always am with the police (sparky charm I guess).

Damn glad they got me when they did because after I had passed the speed camera I would have really put my foot down.

Last time I got pulled over a few years back, I was told that they had clocked me doing 102 in a 70 zone, which would of been an instant ban, but they let me off as well. That was a lie anyway, i was in a piece of shit van that was loaded up with old catering equipment, so it would not of been able to do 102 even if I had wanted it to.

Maybe we need to change your subtitle to "Leadfoot."

haha, yeah, speed is like an addiction to me though, I just can't help myself, i did spend the rest of the day driving just slightly over the limit rather than a lot over it, but it is so tedious.

Have to take my daughter to her first Feis tomorrow morning, just need to be sure to not have a leadfoot then, I will be going on a motorway that is notorious for speeding, the cops will be out for sure. :(

I think one of them would of liked to book me today, he looked my car all over to make sure it was legal and everything, and made a point of reminding me that it is them that has to clean up the mess after speed related accidents, however the other one was pretty cool.

That just reminded me about the only speeding ticket I've ever gotten, it was years and years ago.....I was driving one of my dad's cars and I sped right past a radar car. He didn't even hit the lights or anything, he just stuck his hand out of the window and gestured at me to pull over. He told me I was going 51 in a 30, but ticketed me at 35 in a 30 (whether it was the fact that my dad's name was on the car or I had a clean driving record, or he was just being a nice guy I don't know). Inside I was furious, but outwardly I was polite and friendly. For years, I refused to believe that I was actually going 51 and that the car couldn't go that fast in between the traffic lights on that road. Now that I'm older and have been driving longer, I can't believe I doubted him.

Your experience (had you been one of the cops that stopped me), should dictate I ain't a bad guy then and it was a mistake which I admitted to from the outset, and for which I apologized for, I even said I was a fool for speeding because it was going to have the opposite effect on me getting to where I was going by a certain time.

Now you would have to consider a bit of lenience surely.

Hell if someone said that to me, they would get a police escort, all they way to their destination.  Did you see the tazer video I posted? People usually don't take responsibilty for thier misdeeds over here!!

That has just reminded me of the only time that I never got away with it.

I got up a earlier than normal because I wanted to get to work a earlier, but I ran out of petrol, had no money or credit card, etc on me.
It was before the days of mobile phones, so I found a phone box and called my dad who had just retired, he came out and brought a can of petrol with him, which got me going again, he also gave me some money to put even more petrol in the car.
By this time I was well late for work, so I put my foot down, but the cops were waiting by a school, and clocked me on the radar as doing 47 in a 30, that was enough to get me a fine and three points on my licence that time, but they were right I should not have been speeding past a school of all places.
Got to work about an hour late in the end.

The office girl that I was rushing to get to work early for was not too happy either.

Guess I won that one then, maybe we are different over here, you guys would have it so easy.

My nieces boyfriend who is a copper often spends days on end sitting in cafes or a police van listening to his Ipod or just generally having a laugh with the other coppers, whilst they wait for a call to come in.

I stopped a woman once for blowing a STOP sign. I was in a good mood and intended to simply give her a verbal warning after running her tag/license....until she said 'WHAT damn STOP sign?!'

LOL. One of the cars I have for long driving trips is one of those 3 cylender chevy metro's. Got pulled over one time for speeding. After he told me he was going to give me a ticket for speeding I laughed and looked at my little metro and said, "Can I get two? I want proof to other people that this car accually got a speeding ticket once!" He looked at me, then looked at the car and started laughing. He threw his little ticket book in is car and said, "Yea, all you would have to do is take a picture of the motor to court with you and you would just get off anyways! LOL". I lost it as well. So, he didn't write me a ticket. But then he said, "If you ever manage to get that little thing up to speed again,,,, slow down. LOL"  I told him, "Shit, I ever get this to speed again I better have a cam-corder!" LOL

I did manage to drive only slightly above the speed limit when I took my daughter to her Irish dancing Feis yesterday, but then after being there for 8 hours I was getting kinda pissed off, so I reverted back to my normal self, and drove with a lead foot all the way home, kept an eye out for the cops though.

At least you are not like this, Sparkle.......

But Officer !!!!

I am a trooper with the Washington State Patrol. We often use an aircraft to monitor the speed of vehicles. This is done by timing the car from one mark painted on the side of the road to the next mark. A special stopwatch is used and displays the speed the car is going.

While working one day a man was stopped for speeding. He was issued a ticket and sent on his way. Within a few minutes the pilot advised us a car, that had been traveling in the other direction had turned around near the start of the check course and was speeding. Someone waved the car in. It was the man who had just received a ticket for speeding. As the trooper was issuing him his second ticket for speeding the man became argumentative, saying his radar detectors (he had several) had not gone off. The trooper told him he had to point it up in the air in order for it to pickup the aircraft. The man promptly pointed one of the detectors up.

He was released a second time, but this time the pilot watched him as he drove down the road. The next thing we knew the pilot was telling us he was driving back and forth over both southbound lanes. When one of the troopers caught up with him he was driving down the highway, his door open, hanging out the car and driving, while looking up for the airplane. This time he was arrested for reckless driving and taken to jail.
