Woodbutcher or Sparky

Past two days my system has been running well, then came this morning.

I can't seem to resolve my problems with unintentional restarts.

Having difficulty with obtaining a "Rescue Disk" and I'm tempted to do a Vista Install on top of my current XP.

Bad idea, Good idea or jury-rigging?

If its not a bad idea WTF do I do with the .RSO file once it's Dl'd ?

Current set-up:

Windows XP Media Edition

Intel P4 3.0 w/Hyperthreading

1 gig DDR2 SDRAM @ 533

256MB PCI-E ATI Hyper-mem video

Worst case scenario: I have a P3 but the OS is dead (win98 CD avail) along with the CD-ROM, can't/won't boot to FireWire drive. Would have to buy & install CD-ROM, still have the P4 on the shelf, but I could get on-line.

Should I install Win98 on the P4?

I don't wanna hear "Buy XP for P4" but fear that's my only option.

 HELP !

 Thanks for your time,

 Dante

Please forgive the sentence structure, I'm drinking out of my Pimp-Cup.

EDIT:  Should I have tried to DL the .RSO directly to DVD?  (didn't look if this was an option afraid to restart & DL)

The best way to take care of this problem, take it to a firing range and fire upon the computer. Problem solve. tell husband you need a new computer as your old one went up in smoke.  Case solve

Operator 13's machine has Windows Media Edition which is just another "flavor" of XP. It is almost a new machine.

Micrshaft had issues with W.M.E. when it was first released, and continue to have. They should have just stuck with XP

BTW, Xp home edition can be had for under 100$ in most places.

From what I have read, the .rso file has to be burned to a DVD and then ran from there in order to install Vista. EVERYTHING I have read says to install Vista on another drive totally seperate from XP. Who knows what would happen if you tried to install Vista over what you have now. What I would do is buy a home copy of XP and then totally reformat your HD and reinstall XP.
