Our fine Governor has decide that I must join this organization if I am to get my CDL....
How can someone force me to join a political group that I'm against or tell me I can not work in my chosen profession if I don't....

Cost..... your tax dollars paying for a program that already exists.. It's called 911..... Any one any where can call in to their local homeland security person and report suspicious activity... We don't need to spend millions to do what you can do for free
I called OOIDA and they are already putting together a law suit. They are looking at how this works with the Reco act....(spelling)

Gov. Perdue has signed a bill ( HB 1253 ) into law requiring truck drivers renewing their commercial driver痴 licenses to go through training, known as Highway Watch. This program is administered through a Group known as the American Trucking Association. It lobbies congress on behave of their members. ATA receives grants according to the number of drivers that join the Highway Watch.
Here is my Problem. I知 not a member of ATA and do not support their political views. Nor do I wish to support any activity that will deepen their pockets so that they can lobby against me in congress. The bill says that any driver that does not complete this course can no longer hold a CDL. Its my opinion that this program is a waist of tax dollars. It trains you to call someone if you see something suspicious. As it is, anyone reading this letter should have enough common sense to report suspicious activity without millions of tax dollars being wasted. We already have connected the FBI and the CIA so that information can be shared between them and other agencies
The way I see this bill is either I join a political group that I知 opposed to, or lose my CDL. In America? How can an individual be forced to support the activities of a political group other than one of their own choice? Why is the governor threatening thousand of drivers with their livelihood if they do not join the political group of his choice? If he wants to spend millions of dollars to teach me how to make a phone call, then spend it with groups that have no political ties in the trucking industry.
The governor left me with two choices, join or lose my livelihood. I知 picking a third. Leaving the state. I知 the lucky one. Other drivers that I have spoken with are not in a position to do so. They will have to choose between feeding their families or political oppression.
I知 looking forward the news release claiming the highways safer at the lost of political freedom.

It seems my letter is stirring up lots of folks.... Today, Dave Nemo had a guy from the Georgia Motor Carrier Ass. on his national radio program.... Guess what they talked about..... Yep, my letter....
So what if he totally mis represented what the letter was about... Forgot it was about being forced to support a lobbying group against our will...At least it's moving around some hopefully important peoples desk.
Not to worry though... I shot Dave a quick email and he read my letter verbatim nation wide...Then said he understood my point....different from what the guy from GMCA said it was.. To bad it came right at the end of the show....

Trucking Bozo comes on in the afternoon.... So what happens....One of the regular callers...(Broklyn).. calls in and brings up my letter on the second national radio show for the day......
Tells every one that I've hit the nail right on the head... He said that when it comes to his state, he will do like me.... anything he has to do to keep his CDL with out supporting the ATA...
And of course....Bozo agreed..... but still the last call of the day....
I wonder what will happen if I send my letter to every paper in Georga....mmmmmmm...
I have to agree with the trucker who is upset with the fact that he has to take the "Highway Watch" test in order to keep his commercial driver's license. He is an independent trucker, and as such, has no one to go to of his own choice to watch the movie he is supposed to watch. I suppose he could order the movie over the Internet, but you have to be a "member" trucker to get it. And then, he would still have to prove to the license bureau that he watched the movie.
If the governor wants all truckers to watch this movie before renewing their licenses, then he should provide a place for them to watch it with a witness to sign for them. I would suggest the Driver's License Renewal office. Nor should this driver be further penalized by additional charges to watch the movie. He is already paying a premium fee for his license.
For the public's information, this test was not brought to the public attention for discussion. It was passed into law without consideration of the thousands of independent truckers knowing a thing about it. Now all of those truckers are scrambling trying to find out what this new law is all about and where to take the test.
If I had to renew my license tomorrow, as an independent trucker, I would be unable to do so. I would lose income while trying to figure out how to accomplish the deed. I personally found out about it through my job and had no warning that CDLs could not be renewed until the movie was watched. We then had to send for the movie.
Any driver who would have had to renew during this period of time would not have been able to work. My husband holds a commercial license, also. He is going to have to figure out how to get his license when he renews because he does not work for anyone that will give him the test.
Hopefully, a few calls to the governor's office may help to straighten this out.
