Stem Cell Research

Since President Bush vetoed a bill for stem cell research I would like to hear peoples opinions on it.

I beleive China or Japan is already ahead of the US with this type of research and will continue to advance farther.

The question is, are they kids at that stage or not?

Wow, you ask an intresting question. I have never really sat down and thought of it in terms like that. I guess in certain terms, yes they are kids. But to me, if there is a chance you can help someone else, I would go for it. I guess that is just my giving nature. If I had a fetus that I knew could help someone else, and for some reason it died, I would hope my kid could be of some use.

Wow its been a while since I posted here. :(
I got the lost link email but it was in my junk box... but I really did loose the link. :P

Anyway my view on this is that no we should not be getting new stem cells to do research on. But I believe the bill he vetoed(? looks funny) would have only allowed them to do research on stem cells that were already frozen in a lab and by not allowing the research he basically wasted them.

Idk I just feel strange about letting what would become a child be turned into a new heart for someone. The whole concept is strange and its really hard to determine morally.

Morals.....    Whats that got to do with it....    Right now, politicians are just picking the side that they feel will get them the votes.    As time goes on,   they will teach the science to our kids and get them comfortable with the subject.   In twenty or thirty years,  then they will push it through.

It's all a matter of timing and lining the money up with the correct pockets....

Ah but thats why you vote for who you think has the best values or the ones closest to your own. But thats a whole differen't debate entirely...(what just wen't down with Senator Lieberman is going to make things to come quite interesting. I can't wait to see what will happen and I don't even like the democrats. :P)

We're talking about cells from aborted fetuses or embryos that would be tossed in the trash anyhow. It's not really any different than organ transplants from dead people. It's an opportunity to have some good come out of an otherwise bad situation.

Without a doubt, you are correct. That is another issue I wish would be put to rest.

I don't think it is so much a matter of moral values that people need to worry about. Isn't the benefits that would come from it worth whatever moral issue someone my have.

ugh.. Sure asshole. So I tell you what, I have a list of 1343 people in PDF format that need shot dead. Once they are dead it will make a total of 4542 people live's a million times better. So, since it's the greater good, why don't you sacrafice your life and go kill those 1343 people for us! Who gives a fuck if its moral or not...... idiot!

So I take it you disagree with the research?

Well, since you asked........ To be honest, can't do one without promoting the other so the concept in this country is a bad idea. Now, if you are for it, then it still is a bad idea for this country but unlike you first post suggested, science doesn't have boarders anymore. If other countries do it, we get the knowledge. So...

if they just took people out and shot them...yes then a moral issue would be raised. however i don't recall that they killed people for the research...jackass....most off the stem cells came from abortions....which is another issue....however if you wish to discuss it u obviously have no problems vouicing your opinion.

Wow! Touchy subject for sure. The bill just passed here in Missouri and I was estatic about it. Being that my focus is experimental research I think it's amazing. I personally am pro life, but since I can't stop abortions I do support putting it to good use. More so! I wish more mothers would agree to donate stem cells from their cord at child birth...that would definitely be more ideal imho.

The potential to help sooooo many people is astounding with this research. The less people researching the slower the progress which is why I think our country should very much be involved. The more people working on this type of research the better.

We're talking about regenerating brain areas for stroke victims, parkisons disease, and the list is endless! The unfortunate loss of one life can give life to so many others.

A boss of mine was born with a liver disease and died waiting for a liver transplant. One month ago in England researches grew a liver from stem cells. That could have saved his life.

Perhaps a campaign to encourage mothers to donate cord cells would be beneficial at this point. I would support that.
