I have an old metal floor lamp and every once in a while I get a slight shock from it. But it always happened when my hands were slightly damp, so I figured it was my fault and didn't worry about it.
So last night I go to move the lamp. I pick it up in one hand and grab it on the bottom with the other one. As soon as both hands touched it, I felt this huge jolt of electricity going through my body. I screamed and dropped the lamp. It hit the dvd player and all these sparks started flying everywhere and there were all these loud buzzing electrical noises.
But then the lamp fell away from the dvd player, and it was all over. The left side of my body was tingling all night, and my hand felt burned (althought it wasn't red or anything). At the same time, I had a strange sense of well-being, which made me think there was some sense in the idea of using electro-shock therapy on depressed people.
Anyway, I was kind of shaken up by it, so I just wanted to share.

I am sure you are alright, but it may be in your best interest to call your faily doc and see what he/she may say about possible injury that you are not aware of.
Tingling sensations in ones body is not normal unless your limb has fallen asleep (so to speak)...after a shock of that sort, you may be in need of some type of medical attention!
Take care!

I get those tingling(pins and needles) sensations all the time. I live with it(sucks). This comes from the surgery on my spinal cord, nerve damage, etc. Since your nervous system is basically an electrical type make up, Bread is right. I would have myself checked out. Damage could not be immediatly obvious(I know mine wasn't), and you do not want to put something like that off.

It does suck! I didnt have a spinal cord thing like you, but all that surgery on my knee made the nerves a little wacky. It is not as dull feeling now, but my scarred area still gets a little tingly sometimes...to the point that it hurts.

Entre!! You were very lucky not to have been more seriously injured, and I would not be myself if I didn't ask why you didn't take the lamp in for repair (or get rid of it) when it first started giving you light shocks?? What if you'd been shocked into unconsciousness and the sparks also started a fire?
You might want to take BreadStyx's advice and see your doctor if you're still having a tingling sensation.

Thanks everybody. I just left a message for my doctor and if she wants me to go in I will.
As for why I didn't get rid of the lamp...well...I didn't want to get a new one. But I brought it out to the trash this morning, and I cut the wire so nobody will get any ideas about salvaging it.
