RE: Favorite Regional Foods

During our time in souther Louisiana, We learned how to boil up a pot of crawdads ....

And what ever else you thought of to throw in there ...   potatoes, ham or corn on the cob ........ mushrooms were my favorite ....

Nothing like pouring the pot out on a long table, about 20 people gathering around and popping the heads off of one of those critters and sucking it's brain out after it was boiled in all those hot spices ....   your mouth and finger burning red hot and washing it all down with a cold beer ...

It's like a ritual down there and makes for one hell of a party your rectum won't let you forget for about three days....

They would boil up a pot ...   adding spices as they cooked the crawdads ....

Then cover a pic knick table with news paper and dump them out on the table about six inches deep ...

Everyone would gather round ...  pop the heads off and throw the remnants in a trash can ....

Mean while ,....  the second pot would be started using the spicy water left over from the first pot plus adding fresh spices ...   so it turns out hotter then the first pot .....

By the time you get to the third or fourth pot .....   There is enough spice in the water it seems to cook without turning the fire up ....

To indulge in such a meal with out the aid of an icy cold beverage is certain suicide ....

Tip of the day ....   After eating .....Wash hands before peeing ......You only make this mistake once....

I never equated it with any body parts or functions, but crawdad boils are really good.

It is just that with all the spices you need to be careful about such things such as ... wiping your eyes and things like that.

As for the boil itself ... aside from just plain good eating .... I think a big part of it is just having a hell of a good time with friends.

Here in Nebraska Runza is the thing. Its a fast food place, which serves its namesake, plus burgers and other things. Seriously, people have these things SHIPPED when they move out of the area.
