Certain waterbed mattresses feel good on my bad shoulder, but hurt my back. A stiff mattress helps my back, hurts my shoulder. It's a matter of personal prefference. Have you been to mattress factory? You could meet Ron Tryzyinski.
I have only slept on the normal kind also, but I have been thinking about one of those sleep number bed things, the ones with air in them. I have met people who swear by them. I might get one next time. But then I wonder if the cats would screw it up? Would have to make sure that they couldn't puncture it, that would be my luck.

Absolutely it makes a difference. My back never felt better than when I had a water bed. My current mattress is kind of soft, so it's beginning to bother my back.
I got a chance to try out one of those Sleep Number beds in a store. I was sold on it myself since I like a firm mattress and the wife likes a soft one (which kills my back!).

Radisson Hotels have the sleep number, may be worth the money to test sleep it or make a point of staying there on your next trip.
I ALWAYS check the mattress at a hotel befor I agree to stay. I can not do hard, I will hurt for week after 1 night on a hard mattress.
I do not know what the sleep number goes for, nor have I slept on one. I do know that I love my 1100.00 mattress set from sears that I got back in 2000. Well worth every penny to have comfortable bed. Not so sure I would like that other "NASA" foam thing that I see people dancing on on the TV.

nice that I LIVE near seally and can go to their outlet store and get discounted stuff, king size mattress and all cost alot of dough. BUt thts something thats worth it.
beds make a difference. the old lady finally broke me down last year and made me buy a new bed. i spent 2500 bucks and got one with that space foam shit on the top. it is absolutely awesome! and its higher off the ground due to the thickness, so makes standing up sex against it really convenient for those moments when you just dont have time to lie down. :)
