the news story that happend here in april, the two white teenage males that assulted the hispanic for what ever reason (stated they though hewas kissing the little sister of another white teen there)
IT was a hate crime, but not charged as such due to technacalites. One was sentanced to life in prison. (he must do 40 years before he is eligable for parole in that term) and he was on probation for another assult (oddly it was race related also)
well, the other teen, the one that thought up placing the pool umberalla into the boys rectum, then kick it in.....HAS BEEN FOUND GUILTY.
he can get anything from 10 years probatio to life in prison. he also has a history of assults that are race related.
I am pleased that justice was served to this teen that was so violently assult.
These teens had to learn the hate somewhere, and the sad fact is they will prolly get killed in prison due to the crime.
but this assult victim, has had at least 30 surgeries since the attact, has been in the hospital since the attack, and testified agasit them- in the court room. ( the brian is a powerful thing, he doesnt remember the attack but he remember s some things around the beginning of it, then waking up in ICU.)
I will clear up the hate crime thing for everyone since it is kind of weird in TX. Here in the Lone Star State, the hate crime statute is only an enhacement. It only brings up the punishment level one degree. The 80th session of the Texas Legislature meets in Jan and one of the first bills to be introduced is to change that. They want to have an actual hate crime charge, not just an enhancement. It will more than likely be a felony and will be charged along with the orginal charge. Also I was reading that, if created, the hate crime sentance would have to be stacked. Meaning that they would have to serve the time for the hate crime charge after the first charge. This would create longer times in prison for persons charged with hate crimes. I am all for this. I think its about time something is done about hate crimes. Its just sad it took sometime like this to set an example.
