Red velvet cake

Batter

Cream shortening, sugar, eggs, and flavors. In a separate bowl make a paste of cocoa and food coloring; add to first mixture. Alternately add flour and buttermilk. Mix soda and vinegar in small bowl; add to batter. Blend. Bake in 3-9" or 10" pans for 20-25 minutes at 350 degrees. Let cool completely. Cover with frosting.

FROSTING

Tbl flour
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1 Cup shortening
  • 1 Cup sugar
  • 2 tsp Adams Best Vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp Adams Butter Flavor
  • 1 Cup Milk
  • Cook milk, flour and salt until thick while stirring constantly. Let cool. Cream shortening and sugar very well and then add flavors. Combine with the first mixture and beat well.

**my mom has always made the Adams red velvet cake, and thats what I posted and make also. When they say cream the sugar and the shorting well, for the frosting...I cream it for like 30 minutes. It is just GOOD...
