Do you make them? If so, what are your resolutions for next year?

To get in a better department

To start building my house

To find joy next Christmas

To bring joy to others(except for the once I arrest)

I usually don't make any, would never keep it anyway.

But I will give you this one.

I am going to enjoy summer this year!

Don't worry, you will be bringing joy to those who were affected by those you arrest.

Yeah, I agree with Peaches. I am horrible at keeping them. The only one I want to keep is going to the gym to workout as much as possible.

I make resolutions....well more like goals for the year....but they are of a more personal nature. I sit Christmas eve and look back at the year to that point every year and see where I have been, what I have learned and what I am still lacking and then I make a list and set my goals for the next year. I guess that could be considered resolutions because they are definately things i wish resolved.

My New Year's resolution is not to make any resolutions. Ok it sounded better in my head rather than posting it.

I am not going to make any definite new years resolutions, but I am going to aim to drink less, give up smoking, get my website hosted properly with a proper name (rather than having it on geocities).

I also intend to extend my property, thus increasing it's worth.

Not really a resolution, well, maybe it is....but I'm going to continue to be true to myself and be myself, especially when others try to make me feel that being or doing something nice is a wasted effort. And not take others' ugliness of character to heart.

Because I am nice, damnit!

Nothing wrong with being nice, it is always a good way to be.

I agree with you, unfortunately there's sometimes a thin line between being nice and being a sucker. I just need to be mindful of that line.

Yea, there are some people that sure have a knack for taking advantage of others.  They only want what is best for themselves.  My resolution is to try and pick these selfish people out before I get burned and to be nice to only those who appreciate it and are willing to reciprocate.  Its the Golden Rule in action.

Sounds like you have been hurt recently Bc.

I hope not though, I hope I have mis-read in between the lines.

Good luck .....    Good friends got your back ...   yea right ....    Thousands of dollars involved ....   there are no friends .....    just business ....

Taken advantage of others ....  After what I've seen in the last year ....   I'm thinking the right thing is not always going to be my first choice from now on ....

It's time I started looking after number one just a little bit more ....

Don't take me wrong ....   if a little old lady needs help walking across the street ....   I'll still help ....  just going to frisk her first .....

yea, I always try to weigh things out before taking action.  I try to never go with my first choice, I try to go with the most logical one......the one that I feel in my gut.

Yes, there are people like that and I'm probably thinking a bit naively, but I think that there are more who do appreciate kindness than those who don't. Sometimes getting burned is inevitable but you can't always pick those people out in advance. From my perspective, it's not about reciprocity...I'll give whatever I have to someone who needs it with no expectation for anything in return. There are always going to be a few people, though, who will take advantage. What I need to do better about is recognizing it before it happens and not let those few people cause me to say "forget it, I'm never doing this again."

Yes it is--sometimes, but most people will not burn you just for being nice. However, I can say from experience that the ones who will burn you will be the nicest people that there are, and want to reciprocate immediately for your generosity. People who will burn you are very hard to recognize.

But who are the ones getting burned ????   From what I've seen, it's the one that sit back from the crowd.   They do nothing but their own thing. They don't go looking to hurt people, their just quite, and don't feel they have to be part of the "A" crowd.  Most of these people would give their right arm to help anyone that needs it. And most of them are hard workers ....

The problem with the "A" crowd is,   After some time ....   Something bad will happen  to one of them....   Then they start looking for something or someone to blame it on.  So any one that is not part of their group becomes the reason for their problems.   ie ....   So and so was talking with the boss the other day.    Bet you thats how he found out ....  It never occurs to them that if they just did what they were paid to do ....   There would not have been a problem to start with.

Then it's total pack mentality from there on..  The pour soul sitting quietly off by himself, just doing his job, becomes a target, and he hasn't a clue why.  Anyone  that disagrees with the group gets shoved aside and becomes a target themselves.

I've watched this time and time again over the past couple of years.  In several different places and several different times.  But almost  always the same outcome.

Perfectly good people that I've known for years become ...  well ...   monsters right before my very eyes....   I've watched friendships come to an end over silly rumors, people that use to work their ass off become the biggest shamers you ever saw.  folks that would stand in the middle of a crowd and defile someone just to better his own standing with the group or to protect his own job.

And the worst of all ...   People that were actually attacked to the point that they became scared for their own life. One guy was released just for the threats that were being made against his life.

And the root of it all ....  MONEY .... GREED .....  and most of all STUPIDITY ....

Whats all this leave you with ????   A piss pour view of the human race that will take some time to get over .....  eventually .... I hope ...

SU, your description is exactly right.  When I worked at the county abused children's home, I thought they treated the children horribly, so as a newbie I just tried to keep my mouth shut and do my job.

But when we had an unscheduled fire drill (which we thought was a real fire, because they were all scheduled), I refused to leave the building until I made sure all the babies were out.  So instead of grabbing a baby at random and running like my co-workers, I waited until all the babies had seemingly been removed.  Then I went up and down the aisles checking every crib, and found one baby who would indeed have been left behind.

The next day, nobody would speak to me.  If I talked to them they would look at me and not say a word.  Pack mentality took over, and for the next few weeks I was more and more ostracized and had no idea why.

I was eventually called in to see the boss.  The story told by my co-workers was that I had gone running aimlessly up and down the lines of cribs "in a panic", and that they could not get me out of the building.  I got fired for that, and was told it was also because "nobody likes you".  I actually didn't even tell my side of the story or defend myself because I was so much in shock.

One of the women had dropped a baby in a full body cast, and I think she made up the story about me to take the attention off of herself.

Sorry to bore you with this whole story, but what you said hit a nerve and made me want to vent. ;)

To get the thread back on topic, yes I do have several new year's resolutions mostly involving fitness.  This year I would like to do my first pull-up.  (I actually have never been able to do one before because I have relatively weak shoulders.)  I would also like to learn to do a split if I can get flexible enough.  I've already ordered some The Firm upper body and flexibility tapes which I hope will help.

Its not off track ....   just the reason behind my resolution ...

You see ...  It's possible that the next time the phone rings,  I'll have the chance to go back for another three months and deal with these folks all over again ....

If  I decide to go, I hope I get lucky enough to get a good group of people like I did last time. If not.  it's hell all over again.

So what are we supposed to do ....  The pack is clearly insisting on jumping off a bridge ....   We know it's wrong to jump off bridges ...  but if we don't then we are the bad bad guy for not running with the pack.....

I think I might make a new years resolution that I was not expecting to.

I am not going to visit my sister if I know her boyfriend is going to be there, he is a total wanker.
